Alemka (Aly) Russell is a registered psychologist with AHPRA, a Member of the Australian Psychological Society and a member of the Health Psychology College.

 

Aly is experienced in working within Mental Health and her qualifications include:

• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

• Dialectic Therapy

• Mindfulness

• Relaxation Therapy

• Gender Affirming Therapy

 

She has been practising psychology for over 20 years. Aly first started working with clients on the Mental Health Unit at Cairns Hospital. She experienced the complexities of living with a mental health disorder from the client’s lived experience, together with the impact of mental illness on families, loved ones and carers.

Aly has psychologically supported young adults on the Autism spectrum.

She has also provided psychological support and assessments to Trans and Gender Diverse people.

She is skilled in working with rehabilitation for older persons, including palliative care.

Her approach to counselling is focused on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassionate and Empathic counselling, Motivational Therapy and Structured Brief Interventions.

Aly's client groups are diverse, including multi-cultural, multi-lingual, the young and the elderly. However, she does not cover paediatric age groups.

Aly lives with her partner not far from the city of Geelong on a property that rehomes rescued animals.

She would be happy to introduce her animals via video call and share snippets of them to bring a smile to someone’s face at no charge.

Aly is working towards becoming a registered Equine Psychotherapist - this care is available under the NDIS and GP Mental Health Care Plans.
